LED Therapy

Light-Based Skin Treatment

A gentle, non-invasive treatment using targeted light wavelengths to support skin repair and calm inflammation, with no downtime.

OVERVIEW

What is LED Therapy?

LED (light-emitting diode) therapy uses specific wavelengths of visible light to target different skin concerns. Red light is generally used to support collagen production and calm inflammation; blue light targets the bacteria associated with acne. Unlike laser treatments, LED therapy does not use heat or cause tissue damage — it works by stimulating cellular activity at a low intensity.

It is one of the gentlest treatments in our skin clinic, often used as a starting point for those new to professional skin treatments, as a calming treatment after more active procedures, or as an ongoing maintenance option.

THE PROCESS

What's involved

What to expect

Your skin is cleansed, and you'll be given protective eyewear before the LED panel or mask is positioned over the treatment area. The light itself produces no heat and no discomfort — most people find the treatment relaxing. A typical session runs 20 minutes.

Recovery

There is no downtime. You can return to normal activities, including applying makeup, immediately afterwards.

BENEFITS

Potential benefits

This treatment may:

  • May improve overall skin tone and texture over a course of treatments
  • Supports the skin's natural repair process
  • Can help calm inflammation and reduce the frequency of breakouts
  • No downtime — return to normal activities immediately
  • Suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin

Outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

RISKS

Risks and complications

All treatments carry some risk, even non-surgical ones. Key risks include:

  • Temporary redness or warmth in the treated area, usually settling within a short time
  • Eye discomfort if protective eyewear is not worn correctly during treatment
  • Photosensitivity interactions — some medications increase sensitivity to light and may require treatment to be delayed
  • Gradual results — LED therapy works cumulatively and a single session is unlikely to produce a noticeable change

This is a summary, not a complete list. Our dermal clinician will review your skin and medical history, including any photosensitising medications, before treatment. Please raise any concerns with our clinical team directly.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

LED therapy works cumulatively, and a course of multiple sessions is generally recommended for a visible change. Your clinician will suggest a schedule based on your skin and goals.

Does it hurt?

No. LED therapy produces no heat and most people describe it as relaxing rather than uncomfortable.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes. LED is often used alongside or after other skin clinic treatments to support the skin's recovery.

YOUR TREATMENT

Why Evolve

Skin clinic treatments at Evolve are delivered within our plastic surgery practice, by our fully qualified dermal clinician. Every treatment begins with an assessment of your skin rather than a fixed package, and you'll be told honestly if a different treatment — or no treatment — is more appropriate for your goals. Our skin clinic only operates from our Bulleen location.
