Diode Hair Removal Laser

Laser Hair Reduction

A course-based laser treatment that targets hair follicles to reduce hair growth over time.

Diode laser hair removal treatment at Evolve Skin Clinic
OVERVIEW

What is Diode Hair Removal Laser?

Diode laser hair removal targets the pigment within hair follicles, damaging the follicle's ability to produce new hair. We use an advanced diode system with the latest technology, suited to a broad range of skin tones. Because hair grows in cycles, a course of multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart is needed to catch follicles at the right stage of growth.

THE PROCESS

What's involved

What to expect

The area is cleansed and shaved if needed before treatment. The laser handpiece is passed over the treatment area — most people describe a warm, snapping sensation. Session length depends on the area being treated, from a few minutes for small areas to 30–45 minutes for larger areas.

Recovery

Mild redness and a sensation similar to sunburn is common for a short period afterwards. There is no significant downtime, though sun exposure should be avoided before and after each session.

BENEFITS

Potential benefits

This treatment may:

  • May significantly reduce hair growth in the treated area over a course of sessions
  • Can treat larger areas more efficiently than other hair removal methods
  • Results are generally longer-lasting than waxing or shaving
  • Can reduce ingrown hairs in areas prone to them

Outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

RISKS

Risks and complications

All treatments carry some risk, even non-surgical ones. Key risks include:

  • Temporary redness, swelling or a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area
  • Pigmentation changes in the treated skin, which may be temporary or, rarely, longer-lasting
  • Burns — an uncommon but recognised risk, particularly with incorrect settings for your skin type
  • Limited effectiveness on very light, grey, white or red hair, which does not respond well to laser treatment
  • Incomplete or non-permanent hair reduction — results vary between individuals and hair can regrow over time
  • Sun sensitivity — recent sun exposure or tanning may require treatment to be delayed

This is a summary, not a complete list. Certain medications, recent sun exposure, and some skin and hair characteristics affect suitability. Our dermal clinician can discuss any contraindications relevant to you during your consultation. Please raise any concerns with our clinical team directly.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

Because hair grows in cycles, a course of 4–6 sessions spaced several weeks apart is typically recommended, though this varies by area and individual.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

It is more accurately described as hair reduction. Most people see a significant, long-lasting reduction in hair growth, though some regrowth is common over time.

Can everyone have this treatment?

Suitability depends on your hair and skin type, and certain medications or conditions. This is assessed individually before your first session.
