Eyelid Surgery

What is a blepharoplasty?

“Blepharoplasty” refers to a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of your eyes. It can be performed on either your upper or lower eyelids. As the facial skin and soft tissues undergo ageing, there is laxity of the skin and fat surrounding the eyes. Eyelid surgery serves to remove this excess skin and fat, thereby offering a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

Is a blepharoplasty procedure right for me?

If you find yourself having to raise your eyebrows in order to improve your vision, upper eyelid surgery could certainly help to improve this. Furthermore, removal of excess skin and fat can improve the cosmetic appearance of your eyes.

If you find that your lower eyelid is sagging, or appears puffy, with bulging fat pads, lower eyelid surgery could enhance this appearance.

What does eyelid surgery involve?

Upper eyelid surgery can be performed under local anaesthetic with or without sedation. It requires an incision in the upper eyelid. Excess skin and fat is removed, and the scar line is concealed in a natural skin crease.

Lower eyelid surgery is generally performed with a general anaesthetic. Excess skin is removed, bulging fat, if present, is redistributed. The final scar will lie just below your eyelashes.
